Leading Aerospace & Defense Manufacturer Deploys PTC Windchill to Over 3,000 Trained Users

by | May 14, 2020

ArcherGrey has successfully implemented an OCM rollout for a leading Aerospace & Defense company in their effort to unify and to deploy PTC Windchill across all geographically dispersed business units. ArcherGrey was responsible for creating and implementing a training program design, training material creation, training team management, and delivery of training material for over three thousand PTC Windchill and CAD users virtually…yes, virtually!

Challenge

Classes – Lead the development, coordination, and delivery of training material to multiple locations across the US containing fifteen “Role-Based” custom classes in various lengths, including: Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Configuration Management, and System Management.

Training Material – Provide reusable client-centric and targeted training modules across several classes, effectively reducing training material development and course maintenance time.

Material Relevance – Constantly maintain and update training materials throughout the program.

Solution

Classes – Working with client management, ArcherGrey defined and developed specialized course material utilizing the “Matrix” modules from the standard classes, along with additional content provided by SME’s from other locations and development staff within the company.

Training – Developed using a “Matrix” methodology to allow reuse of common training modules across several classes, effectively reducing training material development and course maintenance time required for this effort which spanned multiple releases of the PTC Windchill PLM suite of products.

Materials – Working with the client SME’s and developers, ArcherGrey adapted the training materials throughout the duration of the program including updates to both business processes and PTC Windchill software topics.

Delivery – Utilizing Skype training, users were able to attend training from their desks while having the advantages of a live instructor to answer questions and help them through exercises while eliminating the overhead costs usually associated with “live / in-person” training.

Results

Classes – Hundreds of classes were conducted throughout the program.

Training – Reduced training material development and course maintenance time required for this effort which spanned multiple releases of the PTC Windchill PLM suite of products.

Delivery – All training courses were delivered via Skype eliminating the overhead costs usually associated with “live/in-person” training. Surveys were conducted after each course to assess the quality of the material and the effectiveness of virtual training. ArcherGrey’s PLM experts were selected to engage in this Organizational Change Management work because of their:

  • Engineering background
  • Expertise in CAD
  • Understanding of engineering processes
  • Decades of experience implementing PLM
  • Working with end-users

The feedback from the surveys were consistent high-ratings and comments regarding the quality of the material, the knowledge of the trainers, and their ability to engage with trainees remotely.
